Aluminium and its alloys are the suitable material selection for metal forming studies and tests because of
low density, high strength, easy machining, excellent corrosion and superior malleability either in cold or hot
which is essential for extrusion. In cold forming a useful process has been found in manufacturing and metal
working by using backward forward combined extrusion process. In this process a billet is extruded in forward
and backward direction simultaneously according to the punch and dies movement.
This is offers the ability of producing a variety of complex shapes and tube components, improved the
products quality and give much economical production. Combined extrusion used for different industries including
automotive, aircraft, agricultural implements, and other fields
Many parameters affect extrusion process and quality of the product such as die profile, reduction area,
lubrication, friction, speed and process condition. The studies reveal that die geometry has great influence on metal
flow and stress level during the process while it has low effect on temperature distribution. For verification
numerical simulation has been done to analyse the process and compare experimental results. Simulation will
increase process improvement, material utilization and product quality.

Magnesium has been attracting much attention as a potential metallic material in wide range of automotive,
military, electronics and aerospace applications. Its low form abilities at room temperature make the practical
usage very challenging .The most favourable method that can improve its strength and form abilities is severe
plastic deformation (SPD). Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is one of the most developed SPD processes.
The studies expose the equal channel angular pressing process ECAP by designing and manufacturing a
different dies with and different magnesium alloys. ECAP process is affected by many parameters; number of
passes, angles, temperatures and die design are the main parameters. These parameters have great influence on
super plasticity ductility, micro hardness, grain size and mechanical properties of the material. The study
demonstrates the development of microstructure and super plasticity that give the best refinement to the
magnesium alloy. The results show that the increase of passes to 4 gives increment in grain refinement and strength,
while after 4 passes the values decrease. Numerical simulation is done to predict the process flow and to compare
with experimental work.
